Yoga & Breathwork Teacher Foundation

Sixty days to teach safely — including the students you should turn away.

Who this is for

People who want to teach rather than only practise. Weighted towards therapeutic application, which is where teaching work actually exists in India, and towards knowing who not to teach.

What you will actually be able to do

  • Teach group classes and one-to-one sessions competently
  • Adapt a practice for age, injury, pregnancy and restriction
  • Supervised teaching hours with real students, not classmates
  • Therapeutic emphasis, which is where the demand and the fees are

Day-by-day curriculum

Published in full, because you should know what you are buying before you pay for it.

  1. Days 1–10

    Asana foundation

Forty-five postures: alignment, entry, exit, common errors and modifications. You practise, then you teach each one to a partner and are corrected on the teaching, not the posture.

  2. Days 11–18

    Anatomy for movement

Joint mechanics, muscle function, and the difference between tight, weak and structurally limited. Why cueing 'push harder' is sometimes the worst instruction available.

  3. Days 19–26

    Pranayama

Eight techniques taught progressively, each with contraindications. Why breath practice is not universally safe and who must be screened out.

  4. Days 27–34

    Sequencing

Building classes with an arc: warm, build, peak, unwind, rest. Sixty-minute and thirty-minute formats. Sequencing for a stated aim rather than a pleasing shape.

  5. Days 35–42

    Adaptation

Older students, pregnancy, back pain, knee restriction, hypertension, recent surgery. What to change, what to omit, and when to decline to teach someone at all.

  6. Days 43–52

    Supervised teaching

Forty hours teaching real classes at the centre under observation. Beginners, older students, and therapeutic one-to-ones. Debriefed after every session.

  7. Days 53–56

    Professional practice

Consent to physical adjustment, boundaries, insurance, scope, and how to describe what you do without overclaiming.

  8. Days 57–59

    Teaching examination preparation

Mock assessments with faculty as difficult students. Handling the person who ignores instruction and the one who cannot do what you asked.

  9. Day 60

    Assessment

Teach a full sixty-minute class to real students, assessed by two faculty. Plus a written examination and your sequencing portfolio.
